I have dropped the ball on blogging yet again! In between mini-sessions, editing and going out of town again – I’ve gotten slightly behind. Expect lots of new posts in the near future though!

I met Kate and Ryan at their home a few weeks ago. They are such a COOL couple, their style is so fun and I immediately fell in love with both of them.
They are expecting their first baby, affectionately nicknamed ‘Squish’. Kate has the cutest little belly and was really up for anything. I cannot WAIT to go back and meet Squish in person.

A few months ago I was contacted by an editor at Professional Photographer magazine – they were interested in profiling me in the magazine and asked me to submit images for consideration.
I was SUPER EXCITED but because it wasn’t a sure thing, I didn’t tell a soul. The magazine came out last month and I finally got my copy last week (due to Canada Post’s strike) and it was so very very very cool to see it in person.
It was also really lovely to see a few of my friends in the US also in the magazine – I always say that I know the most amazing people!

Not only did the magazine feature my maternity work, but I was also interviewed for their business article Profit Center – it seems a little surreal that people are actually interested to hear what I think, haha!

When I started Fresh Sugar six years ago I can absolutely tell you that I never in a million years expected to be in not only one magazine but TWO! 2011 has been an absolutely incredible year for me and I really need to thank all my wonderful clients because without them I would never have the gorgeous subjects for my images! It means the world that you have all trusted me to capture all the joys of pregnancy and having a new baby.

Finger Painting – Calgary Maternity Photography

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Anjali last week in a rare warm Calgary evening. The sun was out and beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better model.
I told her after we did the indoor finger-painting photographs, that I was sure that other people would be requesting a similar session! (the painting was all her idea and it was FAB and FUN!)
Even though we were absolutely attacked by mosquitos, Anj was game for anything and absolutely gorgeous so we just learned to shoot fast and keep our mouths shut, lol!

Ok, I am seriously laughing out loud because these were my first words to this client.
I guess that’s one way to break the ice. LOL
Seriously though, I always say how much I love my maternity sessions, and I get so super excited because my mat clients are always some of the best looking and most-stylish in Calgary. It was super fantastic to meet this amazing couple who after traveling to Africa (twice!) and conquering the corporate world are ready for a new challenge – parenthood.

Something in the water

Ok, first things first, I am extremely embarrassed to realize that I haven’t blogged in almost a month. I am usually a very good blogger, but this weird weather in Calgary has got me all turned around I think. Plus we went on vacation to Disneyland for a week, and in between editing and shooting sessions, blogging has been put on the backburner a bit. Which also means that I have a ton of sessions to share. I still have some from last year, lol, and I think I may have to give up the idea of ever getting to those. I’m going to try to power blog this week, so I might not be as chatty, but I really want these families to see their sneak peeks, or remember the session that we had, haha!

There has been something in the water in Calgary lately, because I have had lots of maternity sessions. Which is GREAT because I love love love them. There’s something so happy about these sessions, everyone is cheery and content and getting sleep, lol. I love coming to your houses and rifling through your closets and dressing you up. I also love getting to know you and your family before the newborn session, that way everyone is super comfortable and everything goes just a little bit smoother.

Almost 3 Years Later

Almost three years ago I got to photograph the lovely Carla when she was still pregnant with twins. Now those twins are running all around the house and Carla is ready to welcome another baby into their warm and happy home.

They are such a beautiful family and she is still one of my favorite people to photograph!

Intimate

Intimate. Isn’t that a word that just invokes so many feelings.
You can be intimate with someone, you can have an intimate wedding, a concert can be in an intimate setting.

This was the word that kept popping in my head when I was editing this maternity session.
The gorgeous mom-and-dad-to-be had so many creative ideas and were up for anything.
But more than that, there was a closeness, a happiness between these two that was very easy to see.
They were in an intimate world, just the two of them, and I was lucky enough to be there to capture it.

Soon their family will double (yes, there are twins in that tiny little belly) and while their world may not be as small, I
am absolutely positive that they have more than enough love to make their household seem cozy and secure and . . .

intimate.

Marcy

Ok, this is how behind I am on blogging. This session was from when the grass was green and not white and brown. Marcy has had her baby already. I’ve done the newborn session.
I’m beeeeeehind. Which makes me a bit of a behind myself. Ba dum dum!

So this is Marcy. You’ve seen her TONS on the blog. I think this was her 5th session in 2 years. I love her. She bought me cupcakes once. And she keeps making gorgeous babies.
LOVE HER.
Jay and Izzy are pretty awesome too. In fact, the three of them make the best photos. Now that there’s four of them, it’s only going to get better. I’m so excited that this wonderful family keeps bringing me back, because I LOVE THEM!

Spoonful of Sugar Mini Sessions are BACK!

As most of you know, I’m taking off to Italy for the better part of September. Which couldn’t be worse timing business-wise because fall portrait season in Calgary is the busiest season of all. So to make sure I am able to fit all my clients in, I am opening up two full days of mini-sessions. This year there’s a choice to what kind of setting you’d like – on September 5th we are doing colorful and “urban” style sessions at Eau Claire Market and on October 3rd we’ll be at Baker Park for some beautiful and cool looking nature backgrounds. So choose the best date and session type for you and register now, spaces WILL go quickly! Spots have already been booked by newsletter recipients, so make sure you sign up if you want first crack at things like this!

Now, onto the details!
Each mini session lasts 20 minutes and you will receive a gallery of approximately 10-15 images.
The session fee is $250 and includes (drumroll please) ONE digital file of an image you choose!
Digital files are not usually sold individually and are priced as a set at $3500, so this is an AMAZING opportunity!
Prints, canvases, storyboards and holiday cards are also available at regular price, and a full set of digital files from your mini-session is $1250. It’s a great chance for a quick taste of the Fresh Sugar experience, great for family portraits, maternity images and child photographs! This session was an absolute DREAM, a dream I tell you. Firstly, she is gorgeous. Like SO NOT EVEN FAIR gorgeous. Secondly, she was super nice, and almost shy! Then I find out that she sent her other two kids to the park so we can have a session that focuses on her and her new baby. Score!
But wait, it gets better! They are moving, and so their home is completely de-cluttered and there’s lots of open space to shoot in. And lastly, they are Apple fanatics like me and it seemed like there was an iPad in every room. I seriously want to move in with them, lol!

I’m excited to share some of these because she was just glowing. I know it’s a cliche for pregnant women, but she really was! You’ll see. Oh, and the body? She was exactly 10 days away from her due date in these photos. FOR REAL.
