Pregnancy becomes her

I see lots of beautiful pregnant women, and they really do have a glow. But I have to say that this particular mama-to-be had something extra. She was radiant. And carrying twins. I did not know that the two things could possibly go together, because I would certainly be tired and crabby. But Carla is sweet, happy and content and she looks gorgeous doing it. It was such a pleasure to meet her and her husband and get to totally snoop in the babies’ nursery. I can’t wait for the newborn session next month, ’cause mom has some great taste and we’ll have lots of cool stuff to play with.
Enjoy your sneak peek C, and your gallery will be up soon.

OK, I had to come back and add one more. I always think my clients look like famous people. I’ve photographed McSteamy, Matthew Perry, Phoebe Cates, Courtney Cox, Seth Meyer, and Jeff Daniels. Ok, maybe I have a problem separating fantasy from reality. But I swear the Carla is the winner of the look-a-likes, because she looks SO much like Michelle Williams to me. So I had to come back and add one more so you could see it too.

I’ve said it plenty of times, and I will probably say it plenty more. I love love love my job. I really, really love it when I get to have sessions with the 6-8 month’ers. It’s my absolute favorite age, hands down. These little people have such big personalities and I get to have such great fun with them. Roman (again with a great name! Calgary is rockin’ those names lately) was so handsome and attentive, I mean, who doesn’t love it when a guy drools over them? LOL! It was a great session, and a fun family. Oh, and close! They only lived a few blocks away from me, how cool is that?

A post a day keeps the doctor away

That will be my motto this week! I’m planning on getting my bloggin’ on these next seven days. I have a lot of sessions to post about, and have been a major slacker, so here’s me making up for it.
Starting off with gorgeous little Frances. Don’t you love that name? It totally makes me smile every time I say it in my head. LOL It was a great session, mom and dad were completely laid back and Frances wasn’t feeling very sleepy so we got some really great images that show off her little personality.
And I love the storyboard at the end. It cracks me up ’cause she’s like “mom & dad, ewwwwww!”.

33 Going on 13
November 22, 2008 // 3 Comments // calgary, me, photography
I had the fabulous opportunity to scream my face off and generally act like a teenager again. New Kids on the Block were in town on Wednesday, and my friends and I had 12th row seats. Not as good as the last time they were in Calgary and we had 5th row, but that’s ok. I didn’t have my painted bedsheet/banner this time around either.
They put on a great show at the ‘Dome, and there were women like me everywhere. It was a super fun blast from the past. Now, the next night is when I felt a little older. We went to the sneak preview of Twilight, and I’m pretty sure we were the oldest people in the theatre. We giggled, not at the kissing like the other girls in the theatre, but some of the bad dialogue and weird-looking faces (what IS wrong with Jasper?). I actually really enjoyed the movie though, I think Robert Pattinson did a great job as Edward, even if I am old enough to be his . . . older sister.

I just love these people. Truly. I loved hanging out with them, they are awesome at joking around and being at ease. And now they have two new little people who are going to grow up as relaxed and sweet as they are. Oh, and they’re going to have cool taste like their parents too.

PS - Thank you all so much for your kind words and thoughtfulness. I’m back to work on Wedesday, and galleries will be rolling out the rest of the week.
A sad family
November 9, 2008 // 20 Comments // me

We have a very sad family right now. My dad passed away at the age of 83. He’s going to be very missed, my girls adored him. He was teaching Emma to speak Spanish (as he was born in Mexico) and Charlotte loved making him read story after story to her. He had been battling cancer for the last year, but his death was still a surprise to all who loved him - he was a spry 83 who still worked 3 days a week playing the piano at a cafe, and drove himself to his own chemo appointments.
He lived a pretty full life, starting out as a musician and ending up to be a well-respected make-up artist working on such films as the Journey of Natty Gann and television series like North of 60.
He even had his own IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0535687/
I realize there are some anxious clients waiting to see galleries and I assure you that everyone will get their images in time for the holidays. I just need some time with my family in the next week to try to deal with our loss and to make final preparations for him. I truly appreciate your understanding and will be back at work as soon as possible.
Thanks and much love,
Brandy

This is totally a cool house. I liked it so much that I wrangled a second visit!
I loved little Max, whether he was awake or asleep, and lucky us, we got some of both.
It was such a treat to meet his family, and see their beautiful house. Did I mention their cool house?

Forgot to mention: I’ll be photographing the momcafe’s inaugural event in Calgary tomorrow at the Earl’s in Westhills. If you’ve registered, I’ll see you tomorrow! Come say hi!
Patience. (or stubbornness?)

Haha! I am very lucky to have great friends who sometimes think I am pretty great too.
This session was a gift certificate bought from a friend, who in turn gifted it to *her* friend.
It’s like Pay It Forward, except I get paid for it. LOL!
Anyway, this session started out kind of slow, the little guy did NOT want to sleep. When this happens, the parents will often get a little stressed. They feel like it’s their responsibility to make sure the baby falls asleep on command. It seldom works that way though. However, if I stick around long enough, that baby will fall asleep. Because I am craftier than the baby, and I know I can wait it out. I also drink a Coke Zero before every session to keep me alert and one step ahead of baby. I know that they will never beat me, for I have infinite patience and never get bored. All in the name for better baby portraits.
Fall in Calgary

Remember when the leaves were a golden yellow? When the air was crisp, but the sun was warm?
Yeah, me neither. Apparently I have photographic evidence though, as this session must have taken place during those 3 days before it dropped below zero and all the leaves blew away, lol.
It was the perfect Sunday morning, just walking around their neighborhood: playing, laughing and talking. Thank you so much for the great time, and enjoy your peek!

Just one . . .
