Chateau Lake Louise

Last week Josh’s parents came to visit from Connecticut. Even though we have a new baby, we still wanted to try to show them some of Calgary’s more famous sites. While not in Calgary, Lake Louise is something that every visitor should experience at least twice – once in the summer to view the amazing turquoise water and once in the winter to see the snow and frozen ice – complete with skaters and horse-drawn sleigh.

We took the 1.5 hour drive up to the lake last Tuesday morning, on our way to the Fairmont’s Chateau Lake Louise for afternoon tea. The drive was gorgeous, and with the warm spell we’d been having, so was the weather!

We had a table by the window and the view was absolutely stunning! It was so much fun to be able to share this with Max’s grandparents – such a fun memory to share with him later on. The tea was delicious – I had the Chateau blend. I love having tea at every Fairmont property I visit, and I alway try the different hotels’ signature blends. The Empress blend from the Fairmont in Victoria is still my all-time favourite I think!

When it comes to having tea though, it’s the food that is always most exciting for me. It’s Costco syndrome. Anything in such tiny portions tastes absolutely delicious! This menu was no exception and my favourite (as always) were the scones with clotted cream.

Living so close to the mountains we sometimes forget how magical they are and what incredible things are so near. I hope we have lots more out of town guests so that we can continue to be tourists in our own province!
