Fun Summer Family
I first had the pleasure of meeting this family back in 2010, when we took a walk through Inglewood to capture their relaxed family portraits. This year, there was an addition to the photos, and a new leafy location! Photographing this family is a breeze, as they are all so fun and easy-going.
10 on 10 – Mother’s Day
We went to visit my grandma in her care facility last weekend for Mother’s Day. It was actually a really fun time, lots of laughs and both my grandma and the other residents love when children come to visit. They get a LOT of attention. I’m so very lucky that I get to spend an afternoon

Emma’s Harry Potter Birthday Party – Snacks
Emma turned 11 in April and got her acceptance letter into Hogwarts, lol. She’s been so into the books and it’s absolutely one of my favourite series so I’ve been thrilled to experience all things Potter with her. She was VERY excited about the thought of a HP birthday party, so I
Custom Harry Potter Invitations
Emma is 11 today, and we are smack in the middle of planning her Harry Potter party for next weekend. It’s been so much fun thinking up cool things to do, eat and decorate with, so I’m expecting to blog about things a lot. Here’s the first thing up – the invitations! We used
10 on 10 – Her First Date
I just cannot believe this day has come. Emma will be 11 next week, and she was asked on her first date by the sweetest boy. She’s known him since the second grade and he’s always just been the kindest, coolest, most respectful boy. I don’t know if I would have said she could go
A Toddler Morning At Home
I had the best time meeting this very cool family. We had a blast spending the morning doing whatever this little man wanted to do. We read books: Drove a car with dad: Played in a chair: Played the drums: Stacked some stuff: Played in the crib: Cuddled with mom: Went outside in the
April Photo A Day Challenge
Back in 2010 I started doing a 365 project, taking a photo a day for an entire year. I was so proud when I completed it, and tried to keep up with it a few times since then but never seemed to stick with it. So I thought I would start one here on the blog, giving myself (and you!) a theme for each
Harry Potter Exhibition – Edmonton
We surprised the girls with a quick trip to Edmonton to visit the Harry Potter Exhibition last weekend. Emma’s finished the Harry Potter series, much to my delight, Charlotte has finished the first book, and Josh is being introduced to the movies. The exhibit is MAGICAL. Sadly, no photos or
10 on 10 – March
If you remember the 10 on 10 project that I joined in February, you’ll realize that we got a bit behind again this month. In fact, I scrambled to take some images yesterday, so this month’s entry is a hodgepodge of home life. Charlotte just lost a front tooth, Emma is very much a TWEEN
Scary Internet Friends
The internet used to be a kind of scary place to meet people. I remember going to some bulletin board meetups with my friend Kim, back in the early 90’s, she met her boyfriend online and it was kind of like the weirdest thing ever. You want to date someone you’ve never met? Now, in
Brandy Anderson, CPP
I started Fresh Sugar back in July of 2005, which kind of seems forever ago, but in reality – it’s really not all that long as a career as a photographer. Next year will be my 10th year in business, which I will say is an accomplishment I’m proud of, as I’ve seen
Kananaskis
I think I’ve talked about the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis here before, we head out there every Easter. This year we decided to sneak out there for the February break, excited to do some sledding, skating and swimming! We LOVE the Delta Kananaskis, they have such an amazing hotel for families.
Those eyes! Those lips!
I met one of these little guys when he was just a baby, and now he’s a big brother to a energetic 10 month old that is just as cute as he is! These two have such striking features, they are absolute stunners and were a ton of fun to spend the morning with. This post is featured on Fresh
10 on 10 at 10
I’m so excited to take part in a blog group called 10 on 10. The idea is 10 images on the 10th of the month., to capture more of your family and daily life. (I know, it’s the 11th, it was a different date this month, lol). I decided to use Emma to have a fun photoshoot, adding another
Crochet Mood Blanket
Ah, the wonderful world of Instagram. Due to my love of documenting all things that happen to me, I’ve been able to participate in some really neat things lately. The first is the Crochet Mood Blanket. My grandma used to crochet all the time, and I remember learning enough as a kid to chain,
Waterlogue
So oh my gosh, Waterlogue is by far my most favorite app on my phone. After taking watercolor classes last spring, I’ve been only slightly watercolor-obsessed. This new app ‘paints’ your everyday iPhone images into absolutely stunning watercolor masterpieces. I play with it almost
Two Normal Girls go to Sundance
A couple of weeks ago, I met my best traveling partner (amazing senior photographer Jess VanLue) in Salt Lake City to travel up to Park City, home of the Sundance Film Festival. We got the idea for this trip sitting in a cafe in Paris (seriously, whose life is this?) last April. We wanted to choose
Cold Hands, Warm Heart
While the snow is falling in January, it’s time to be cuddly and cozy inside! Fresh Sugar is having a special baby event now until the end of the February: PURCHASE ANY NEWBORN SESSION AND RECEIVE A MATERNITY OR SIX MONTH SESSION FREE!
Dream
I’ve been seeing a lot about choosing a word for 2014. Something to inspire you, something to motivate you, something to anchor you. I’ve decided to try this approach and easily chose DREAM for my word. Maybe I should have chosen PLAN, or FOLLOW-THROUGH, because those are definitely
Another Gorgeous Family
I can’t believe how lucky I’ve been this fall, getting to photograph Calgary’s cutest families!
Clarity
I’m home from the most amazing trip and I’m full of energy and more importantly, clarity. Much to blog about, and soon!
Cousins
This was such a fun session, I’ve photographed Blake and her mom and dad for many years now, and it was such a pleasure to get to meet more of the family! This post is featured on Fresh Sugar’s Best of Calgary Family Photography page!
This Boy
I’ve known this boy since he was just a few days old. He has always had the most beautiful, soulful eyes. Sometimes he smiles big, and sometimes he just watches me. He is quiet and sweet and fun and I just adore him. This post is featured on Fresh Sugar’s Best of Calgary Family
Friends
I’m so lucky to have this family in my life! Our daughters are best friends, and so are we! Wine, crochet, True Blood, water-colour, iPhones, dinners, beers, the list goes on and on and on. They are true friends, and have been there for me and the girls in such amazing ways. So yeah, I love
My heart
My heart has been breaking for this family this year. My heart soared to see them again, to see them gluing themselves back together, piece by little piece. My heart feels bigger for knowing them.
Red
I just love love love these smiles and these kids. I look forward to seeing them every year, I adore how the family always coordinates so awesomely!
Mini Halloween
I love that this mom thought to bring some Halloween costumes to their mini session! I’ve know Jen and the boys for years and years and she always has fun ideas for her sessions. The blog for the next little while will be a big gushy mess of love because I’ve had so many repeat clients
B
When little B was much littler, I had the most amazing time meeting her and her family. I’ve gotten to photograph them through the years, watch her grow taller and more beautiful. I’ve become Facebook friends with her fiery and fantastic mother, and have witnessed some of their huge up
2013 Mini Sessions
It’s that time of year again! Fall is quickly approaching and snow will be here before we know it. (sigh) Due to Bowness Park being closed from the June flooding, this year’s sessions are being moved from the newly busy Baker Park to a beautiful and quiet location in Royal Oak, NW
Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation
I’m so excited because this year I get to do three separate shoots for the Children’s Hospital here in Calgary. I’ve said many times that these are my favorite shoots to do, I look forward to them all year! I’ve met some really amazing, genuine, gorgeous kids this year so
Rainy – Calgary Children’s Photography
Just one that caught my eye today while editing. With the weather in Calgary lately, I think we could all use a raincoat, rain boots and a juice box.
Paris
Oh Paris. It’s taken me a long time to sum up my feelings on this amazing city. It was a whirlwind six days, walking, taking the metro, eating cheese, drinking champagne. Laughing so hard it hurt, crying over my Bordeaux because I like to get emotional when I drink, lol. Talking about
Cohen – Calgary newborn photography
I smiled while editing every single one of Cohen’s photographs. He is such an expressive baby, and I don’t know if I’ve ever photographed a newborn with so much eye contact! He is such a sweet little peanut.
Spring Break
Ah! How is spring break half over already? As usual, I start the vacation off with so many big plans. Skating at the Oval, maybe Telus Spark and/or the Glenbow, geocaching and crafts. Oh, and some spring cleaning! (FYI – the Oval is actually closed until July for public skating) What have
