Back from the beautiful Napa Valley!

I’ve returned back from a wonderful trip down to San Francisco and Napa. I went down there for a photography retreat for an amazing organization I belong to: NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers). It was 3 days of sharing, growing and making amazing connections. It was a complete indulgent getaway from start to finish and I am so glad that I went! I was especially honoured to be asked to speak at the retreat, I (nervously) gave a presentation on fusion slideshows (for those clients who haven’t had one yet – it’s the mix of video and photos from your session). The photographers in the room were so awesome, welcoming, kind and full of questions that they made me feel like I had done a decent job, even though public speaking is not something I am quite comfortable with yet.

We did wine-tasting, a shooting clinic in the vineyard with some gorgeous child models and listened to some great speakers. It was an experience of a lifetime – and if you are a photographer, I urge you to join this wonderful organization. If you are a parent, I encourage you to check out the site, as there are wonderful resources, everything from recipes, things to do with your children on vacation as well as photography tips. I’ve also written an article for the site, which you can find here.

While we were down there, Dave and I went to San Francisco for a few days as a bit of a getaway for our 9th wedding anniversary. We met up with my super-talented friend Ashley McNamara, and she did a photo session for us in Chinatown. She did a fab job, you can see some of the pics on her blog: Ashley McNamara Photography. We stayed at the W which was the epitome of modern hip (Bliss products in every room!), and visited the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art which was right up my alley. We also went down to Palo Alto, a place we first visited when Emma was just 3 months old. I just HAD to have Sprinkles cupcakes. And yes, I ate all 12 of them. No, I am not kidding.

It was such an incredible getaway, and I come back to Calgary recharged and super excited for all my upcoming sessions. I have limited availability now until September, and am currently booking into October for fall portraits. If you are looking to treat yourself to the Fresh Sugar experience, I urge you to book now! And speaking of booking now, there are only a few days left in our iPad giveaway, enter now – and remember – if you book a session you automatically receive 5 entries to win!

And now, for the photos. I actually surprised myself with how many I had because I felt like I didn’t take very many at all. Thank goodness for the iPhone!
